5 Star + Uber Soccer Moms
Part 2 in the Series: The Kids Are Alright… Working Out
What’s Really Happening on Yet Another Shuttle Ride to Practice
I've got a basement full of useless trophies, so unless that's a golden wrapper for Chocolate, don't bother.
Last we spoke of some physical expectations in your mini hulk with resistive training. But, let’s leap back and smash into one’s exercise journey as part of a lifetime relationship with better health—specifically, the influence of parents not only for children but also adolescents and onward into adulthood.
If parents have a positive relationship with exercise, this translates to a greater likelihood that their children will. Parents provide both emotional and instrumental support in this endeavor. The latter is more logistical such as signing up for sports, purchasing necessary equipment, and rides to games, but can, surprisingly, explain more of the long-term adherence to exercising. That’s right, we are more than Uber soccer moms and dads. We are life coaches, sports team psychologists, and intuitive diviners of fountains of youth and longevity. Sure, this includes sometimes having to get the right kind of Gatorade (“No!, the blue helps me run faster!”)
So consider this the next time you are driving to a game 45 minutes away only to find out that it’s the wrong location or the right location but on the wrong day. After a fit of potty mouth, sailor speak, breathe deeply, and know that the more time you spend with your youngling pursuing their sports endeavor, the more you are helping them towards a lifetime of better health through exercising. Shabbat Shalom.
