Ideas for Reinforcing Good Posture:
Make a coin Jar and label it with an “I love my lordosis” heart emblem downloaded here. Put a coin in - toward something cool or for charity every time your family or teachers notice good, up-tall, sitting posture with reading, homework, or screen time. Also, put a coin in because you saw a really beautiful, straight-backed forward bend with hinging at the hip, or a great “elevator lift” and each time say “luvosis Lord O’sis, I love your lordosis.” Encourage position changes and microbreaks every 15 minutes as an opportunity to move around and focus on distant objects. Put in a coin and offer praise whenever a positional change or microbreak occurs. Set up standing workstations, offer praise, and put a coin in the jar when you see a family member working at elevated desks or countertops. Here is the rule: Everyone gets to correct everyone. We are all guilty of bad posture and kids get a kick out of helping their parents. It also builds confidence to be able to help someone older. If, or rather, when they catch you, parents, thank them and place a coin in the jar and your kids will be your best/worst reminders. Use some of the catchphrases from the book when possible, such as “Keep your lordosis, so it won’t feel atrocious”, or “Hey! There is a Slumpalotamus sitting where my son used to be! If you find him, tell him he owes me some push-ups for slouching.”
